Superhero Birthday Party

We did it! We survived the birthday party! Pea had a fabulous time at his party, and I think everyone else did too. It was a superhero themed breakfast. When I was starting to plan this party, I decided that not only would breakfast be fun and easy, but it would get things over with early and leave everyone the rest of the day to play.

We had pancakes, bacon, fruit, OJ, and an egg casserole type thing that cooks over night in the crock pot. Everyone said it was delish. (Ill take their word for it, since by the time husband and I were ready to eat, it was gone!) Instead of cake- I bought donuts. I piled them up, stuck candles in the top one, and called it donut cake. The kids were THRILLED!

(this is probably the WORST table picture I have ever taken. But at least you get the gist of it)

For party favors, I used felt and made capes and masks for all the little superheroes and heroines. They were really pretty easy. I found 72" wide felt online, for around $5 a yard. I was able to make 3 capes from one yard, with enough left over for masks and appliques. I bought 2 yards each of 3 colors, and made a total of 17 capes and masks. I have quite a bit of felt left over, Ill have to come up with some other project to use it for, one of these days. the best part? NO SEWING! Ok, I take it back, the velcro needed to be sewed on. I convinced a friend to help me, and it took her less than an hour to do the velcro on all 17.

The majority of the kids really liked their capes. They were all running around the back yard with them on, having a blast. Each cape had their first initial and another shape of some kind. I did hearts for the girls, and a combo of stars, lightening bolts, and the Superman shape for the boys.

The birthday hero's gift from us was his first big boy bike. He loves it and is already getting the hang of the pedaling thing. It was so cute- he wore his cape and mask while he rode it around the backyard for a large part of the morning. I love that he loves his bike! And you can see his cool cape design too. I matches the banner that was hanging on the wall.

And the donut cake. It was so easy, and no cutting! I loved it! Except for that now I have a few (almost a dozen!) donuts left...What the heck am I going to do with those? Any ideas?
Whadda ya suppose he is wishing for?
